How to Travel with Life Restrictions

Overview: A guide to being aware of travel pace especially in group dynamics.

Main Reasons that Prevent People from Traveling

  • Money

  • Time

  • Not enough PTO or no PTO

  • Schedule restrictions (work, school, etc.)

  • Leaving pets or children can be expensive or too much to plan

  • Fear, overwhelm, lack of confidence

    • Safety-related fears

    • Fear of something bad happening (losing phone, money, getting lost)

    • Fear of navigating a country with a different language

Some of the suggestions below may be extreme to some people but we sometimes have to get creative to get what we want.

Concerns

  • Money

  • Time

  • Not enough PTO or no PTO

  • Schedule restrictions (work, school, etc.)

Suggestion

  • Incorporate travel into your work and consider becoming a flight attendant. It’s an entry level position. The company pays for your hotel costs when you land in a place far from home. At the very least you will be able to travel via domestic flights. Consider applying at an airline that has international flights and express interest in that during the interview; it can’t hurt to be honest about wanting to travel and being willing to make a career change to do so.

  • Cons: You will likely be far from home pretty frequently

    • You may get sick of flying or staying in hotels

Suggestion

  • Actively seek a job that pays more with better benefits and PTO

  • Cons: This will likely be a corporate job
